DESCRIPTION:Have a project in mind but don’t have the tools or space to build it on your own? Come build it with us!\n\n\nConsider yourself a real Ron Swanson but no room to have your own workshop? Use ours! We are proud to offer Open Shop\, where you’ll have 3 hours to work on whatever tickles your fancy (all projects subject to instructor approval). \nWe welcome all skills levels but strongly suggest that you take 1 or 2 introductory workshops with us first before venturing out on your own! Instructors will assist you in your project\, but they will not make your project for you.  \nOur instructors will be there to show you how to use the equipment\, supervise to make sure you leave with all your fingers and toes\, and provide direction if you need an expert opinion. However\, we cannot guarantee that your project will be finished in only 3 hours. DESCRIPTION:Take our 2-day workshop to create a beautiful and unique cutting board using reclaimed hardwood cutoffs.\n\n\nEveryone needs a cutting board\, why not make yours a masterpiece? Take our 2-day workshop to create a beautiful and unique cutting board using reclaimed hardwood cutoffs. You’ll be able to assemble your wood from different types of hardwoods\, giving color and dimension to your project. From there we’ll instruct you on how to assemble your cutting board using glue and clamps. In the second class you’ll refine and finish your cutting board and then protect and condition it with walnut oil. We’ll also cover proper cutting board maintenance\, so you’ll be able to keep your cutting board looking good for years to come.   \nBoards will be no larger than 10″x12″x1″ or 120-125 square inches\, and no more than 1″ thick.  \n \nTHIS IS A TWO DAY WORKSHOP.  The class will take place on  2 consecutive days of the week (2 Fridays\, 2 Saturdays\, etc.). DESCRIPTION:Get creative with reclaimed tiles. No experience required.\n\n\nJoin local artist Lisa Plefka Haskin in upcycling reclaimed ceramic tiles into beautiful pieces suitable for hanging on your wall\, using as coasters or brightening up any space. \nLisa will lead you through the process of creating collages and adding layers of decorative elements to achieve your design vision. Come with ideas or get inspired while you’re here. \nParticipants will create a set of 4\, 4″x4″ tiles. \nLisa Plefka Haskin is an Evanston artist with a diverse art and graphic design background. Over the course of her career she has worked as a graphic designer; run her own faux finishing and decorative painting business; and always kept her hands in various painting and art/craft projects. As a mixed media artist\, Lisa enjoys repurposing materials. SUMMARY:Fun With Embroidery\, Botanicals\, and LED Lights
DESCRIPTION:Join artist\, Haerim Lee\, for this fun & interactive workshop that combines botany\, embroidery\, & LED lights to make unique illuminated art.\n\n\nJoin artist and art education\, Haerim Lee\, for this fun and interactive workshop that combines botany\, embroidery\, and LED lights to make a unique illuminated Botanical Illustration.  \nIn this 3 hour workshop\, participants will learn how to create soft circuitry (electrical circuits made from fabric or cloth) and create their own embroidery integrating natural sources with LED light. Each participant will bring his or her favorite plant to class as inspiration. In the workshop\, participants will learn about the contemporary artists\, Meredith Woolnough and Kazuhito Takadoi\, who use plant imagery and embroidery to make beautiful and meaningful works of art. Then\, they will choose a fabric and begin sketching their plant\, while integrating light source that they will have marked with a dot on their fabric. After the sketches are complete\, the students will embroider their chosen plants\, using at least three different thread colors. Lastly\, students will insert their LED lights into their embroidered creations\, sewing with conductive thread to attach the light to a battery power source. All materials are included in the cost of the class. \n \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR \nHaerim Lee (Aka Rim Lee) is Chicago-based artist and art educator. Her practice is community-oriented. She completed her MFA in the Painting and Drawing department\, as well as MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. \nShe has had solo shows at Gallery Noone (2017) and Kasia Kay Art Project (2012) in Chicago\, and Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art (2012) in South Korea. She participated in group shows including The Body (2010) as a part of the Chicago Humanities Festival\, Out of Context (2019) at Chicago Artist Coalition\, Artists Run Chicago 2.0 at Hyde Park Art Center\, and Young Eunji Connecting Memories: Consistently (2020) at Youngun Museum of Contemporary Art in S. Korea. She was awarded the Downtown Gary Public Art Competition from the Legacy Foundation (2017) as well as Make Together (2020) from the Hyde Park Art Center. Let’s get building! \n \nNEW CANCELLATION POLICY EFFECTIVE 11/01/21 \nREFUNDS AND EXCHANGES \nIf you can’t make it to a class\, you can transfer your ticket to someone else. Please email indigo@rebuildingexchange.org with their name and email address.  \nIf Rebuilding Exchange needs to cancel a workshop\, we will notify you 24 hours before the class and give you the option of refund or reschedule. \nWe do not currently offer other refunds or transfers between classes. \n \nSTUDENT SAFETY DURING COVID \nYour safety is our highest priority at Rebuilding Exchange\, so we have put safety protocols in place for all of our in-person workshops to keep everyone safe.
